We’ve finally made it!! After traveling over 2000 nautical miles we have docked in Honolulu for the day! Due to the inability to get off the ship, (this is only a refueling port) I am fortunate enough to have had a field class for International Security.
For my class we were able to travel to PACOM HQ, (Pacific Command) and have a meeting with two officers about what they do and how to approach security. From there we went to the aviation museum for lunch and got a tour of Pearl Harbor and the USS Arizona Memorial.
This was a very interesting trip because I finally got to understand why the US feels like they have a role to play in most international affairs. I also got to see how they portray the attack on Pearl Harbor and World War 2 with little to no mention of the affects it had on the Japanese as well as Japanese-Americans (mainly in the sense of the atomic bombs and internment camps).
As this is the final day of being in the USA for a few months, it is starting to hit me that I will be traveling the world.
It has been a long day of calling loved ones and having class, I will write more soon but first, time for a Walmart trip at 1845! (I’m used to military time now)
